Fall Bright, The Winemakers Shoppe Filters and Filtration: Wine should be brilliant prior to filtration and racked off the lees 2-3 times.
Fall Bright carries 4 filters. The least expensive is the (Harris) Mark III gravity feed filter. The wine is siphoned to the filter unit, which takes a single pad and sits on top of the empty carboy. Some of our wine makes have made use of pumps to hasten this process along. Others transfer the wine to be filtered to a hedpak and gravity feed to the filter. The higher the drop (like out the second story window), the faster it goes.
The disc sitting on top of the lower bottle is the filter housing. We offer a tank filtration set up for use with the Mark III that consist of a 5 gallon rigid vented hedpak, a bottling spigot that screws into the cap or can be secured in a drilled hole and 5 feet of 3/8 tubing that will connect to the tubing supplied with the filter. We price these items together as a unit at 10% off retail if bought separately. The filter comes with a set of 6 Crystal Bright filters (one per use). Vinpapers may be used on top of the filter pad and replaced to extend the life of the pad itself.
