Instructions for Buon Vino Super Jet

Filtering tips: Muddy looking wines should not be filtered, rather they should be clarified with proper fining. Check the brix, TA and pH. Make necessary adjustments and additions such as SO2 and Sorbate. Fine and cold stabilize prior to filtration.

Self Priming means your self primes it!

Caution: As with any new and/or dry "self" priming pump, pour some water into the intake hose before flipping the switch. Do not run dry, nor run while switching between carboys, as that increases oxidation of the wine.

Insert the clear hose with the short white plastic end piece, or drainage tube (no. 1 diagram) to the fitting marked A in diagram.

Insert the clear hose with the red anti-sediment tip or intake hose (no. 2 in diagram) to the fitting on pump marked B in the diagram.

Detach the 2 white clamps located on the frame next to the motor. This is done by sliding each side in opposite directions at the point where the clamp joins. Place on each of the fittings to ensure against air intake or leakage. A set of pliers may be used to tighten the clamp around the fitting if you cannot tighten with your fingers. (Note: Once you hear a snap the clamp has tightened sufficiently.)

Loosen the filter body screw (no. 3 in the diagram) and remove the steel concave cover plate and the first three plastic filtering plates. The last plate will not come out.

Read filter pad description before continuing to be sure of which of the 3 Buon Vino pad you should use. Also note gauge directions (over).

Using a clean container with cold water soak the filter pads for approximately 60 seconds. Let them absorb water but do not over saturate.

Insert one of the pads making sure that the course side is facing towards the motor (see diagram). Ensure the holes on the pads are aligned with the holes on the plastic plates.

Insert one of the two central plastic plates, making sure that the half moon on the top part of the plate lines up with the half moon on the non-removable plastic plate. Insert the next pad and the second plate in the same manner, followed by the last pad and the plastic plate with the support pins. Use all 3 pads and plates provided. Do NOT mix pad numbers, i.e. #1 with #2, etc. Place the steel concave plate in position last

All 4 half moons should now be in a straight line, the three pads should all have the coarse side facing the motor, and all the holes should be aligned with the pads being as square to the plastic filtering plates as possible.

Tighten the filter body screw well in order to ensure an air tight closing.

Insert your feeder tube (no.2) into the wine to be filtered and place your drainage tube (no.1) into a clean container, which will house your filtered wine. You are now ready to filter. (NOTE: Depending on the wine, we may sacrifice the first 750 ml or bottle of wine as this includes the remains of the water from soaking pads or any meta rinses if used.)

FILTERING DIRECTIONS

The #1 coarse pads (6 microns) are mainly used for heavy wines. The pads will not show significant change in your wine. They are used to collect and/or break down large particles. Soak the pads for 60 seconds. (See instruction #6 over.)

NOTE: It is not recommended to wash and reuse #1's as in instructions from 20 years ago. All pads, 1,2,and 3 are not reusable, discard when finished.

The gauge will increase in pressure on its own. From time to time check the PSI on the gauge and when it reaches 18-20 PSI, turn off the motor and change the pads.

The #2 pads are finer (1 micron) and are used for brightening and polishing of your wine. A significant change should be noticed in clarity and brightness. As with the #1 pads, soak the pads for 60 seconds, (see instruction #6). As the pores in the pads fill the pressure gauge will show an increase in pressure. From time to time check the PSI on the gauge and when it reaches 18-20 PSI, turn off the motor and change the pads.

If you prefer to further enhance your wine or if you plan on bottling use the super sterile #3 pads (0.5 micron). As with pad # 1 and 2, soak for 60 seconds. With the #3 pads you cannot exceed a pressure differential of 10 PSI. To calculate differential pressure, allow approximately 2 gallons of wine to flow through the pads. At this point the pressure gauge should stabilize. Note the pressure on the gauge and add 10 PSI. DO NOT EXCEED THE PSI CALCULATED.

Check valve replacement or cleaning of valve before ordering a new one.
